My husband says that every Romanian he's met has been musically inclined. I sing and both my brothers play instruments. My youngest brotherhe's the musical genius. He started playing the violin at a very young age. But when he hit junior high, his tastes had grown and he instantly became a fan of acoustic handmade guitars. He was kind of a hippy/ rocker. It was interesting to watch him develop into a man. He went through some pretty awkward phases.
But his love was guitars. He often read about custom guitar makers and dreamed that someday he'd be one of them. Unfortunately, he was not that talented. He was pretty good at playing those custom made guitars though. Instead of a car for his sweet 16, my parents bought him a semi decent custom guitar. It was used, but still very nice. I think they bought it from EBay or something.
So when my brother turned 16, his friends all wanted acoustic handmade guitars, he decided he'd start a folk band. He played at local bars and he almost always played at parties in school. He even played something for my prom. It was actually pretty nicemy dork brother playing something for me and my then idiot boyfriend. A nice slow song he wrote about falling in love and waiting for the right moment to say I love you.
When he hit college, he tried to meet custom guitar makers. He would write them email after email hoping one would respond. Unfortunately, they thought he was crazy and told him to leave them alone. But he still loved his custom made guitars. He even bought one for himself, a nice Shanti from a websitelutheirscollection.com.
He put that new guitar to use at my wedding. He played all the music for my ceremony accompanied by his fianc on the piano. It was rather sweet. I was in love. He was in love. And he was still very much a dork who was half rocker, half hippy.
I guess I'm thankful my parents bought him that guitar for his 16th birthday. Music definitely kept my brother out of trouble. And it steered in a path of community servicemade him a better man. I'm proud of my acoustic guitar playing brother.
