World of Warcraft Low-Level Instance Favorites

The number of instances (dungeons) in World of Warcraft can be staggering to the newly initiated adventurer. The early dungeons allow adventurers to get a feel for their role in the group and game mechanics. Novice adventurers will often be somewhat overwhelmed by the tactics of more advanced dungeons without experiencing the "training" dungeons. So, before beginning the long path to virtual immortality, hone those skills on the early dungeons.

The dungeons are accessible as soon as a player reaches level 15. The random dungeon finder (a green eye in the user interface) will become active after a player reaches this level. Simply click on the icon and select which dungeon sounds like funor select a random dungeon to test the fates. Players will be grouped with other players of similar levels into a group of five. Group makeup will consist of 1 "tank" class, 1 "healer" class, and 3 "dps" (damage per second). A very important component of a successful dungeon run involves everyone working in harmony and performing their roles correctly.

Now, to the fun stuff we go. I personally love the early dungeons. When learning a new character or just beginning to play, early dungeons are a blast. The dungeons increase in difficulty and necessary teamwork as a player's level increases. Listed below are some of my favorite early level dungeons.

1. Scarlet Monastery (level 30-40): This is the first dungeon that gives a feel for some of the more advanced tactics that will be necessary later in the game. The Scarlet Monastery is made up of four wings (Graveyard, The Library, The Armory, and The Cathedral). Each wing is an instance by itself. The lore is wonderful as well as the scenery. Some of the fights will require a well-geared tank and a healer that is on the ball with timely heals.

2. Zul'Farrak (level 44-54): This dungeon is located in Tanaris and has one of the most unique events in all of WoW. The instance would be fairly ho-hum if it wasn't for the 100 trolls event. The players stand at the top of a large pyramid type structure as wave upon wave of trolls tries to kill them (and their friends).

3. Stratholme (level 42-55): This dungeon was recently lowered from a level 57-60 dungeon when Cataclysm was released. I have had some of my most fond game memories from this dungeon. Massive amounts of trash that provides some excellent AoE practice is one of the things that make my eyes light up when I set foot in this instance. The final boss (Baron Rivendare) also has a small chance to drop his skeletal mount. Do not forget to shout Timmy!! when a certain boss encounter occurs.

4. Blackrock Depths (level 47-57): This is a massive dungeon that can take a very long time if the group is looking to do a full clear. My first time in this dungeon took about 8 hours to complete. Many bosses and tons of trash make this instance very slow going. Make sure to have a map of some kind because this instance can become confusing in a hurry.

Well, those are my favorite low-level instances. All new players should experience these dungeons. They are a great way to learn about each player's role in the group.
