The Business Practises that will be Extinct by 2020

Technological advances have changes the face of business almost completely in recent years, with such advances including the internet and email. But with new gadgets being invented and unleashed onto the marketplace every year, there will soon be some standard practises in business that will no longer be viable or useful, because we'll have invented something to replace it. So with that in mind, here are a few examples of common workplace practises and accessories that will definitely cease to be if our technological pace increases dramatically in the next few years.

The Office

It's becoming increasingly easier to work from home thanks to the internet and remote access to email, so in a few years the daily commute to the office, the need for working from a work computer, and liaising with colleagues in the office might become a thing of the past, as more and more workers opt to work from the comfort of their own home, using their home computer to work.

Board Meetings

In a few years, the board meetings as we know them will be long gone, and no one will opt to physically come into the office on an allotted day to discuss targets, costs or the day to day running of the business. As with commuting and working from home, it will be much easier for workers to simply log into' a board meeting from home, or wherever else they might be. This could be via the internet or the phone, or another, new and exciting invention, however they conduct board meetings in the future, they will be unrecognisable from the meetings we know and recognise.

Paper

This may sound a little extreme, but one day paper, one of the basic and most recognisable items in use worldwide will not be needed by businesses anymore. With many workers opting to work electronically from home, and the humble office being no more, will there be any realistic need for paper? Once everyone has switched to working on purely electronic sources, such as email, excel, word and PDF, will anything need to be printed out? Again, this may seem like a very unusual statement to say, but the face of the matter is that we are increasingly turning to electronic copies of documents, as opposed to hard copies of documents, so be aware that one day, you may not have the need to use paper at work at all.

International Travel

As with the daily commute and the board meeting, the need for travelling to another country for the purpose of creating new contracts, or simply staying in touch with colleagues based in another office, will become null and void in the next few years. With the more recent technological advances, and the popularity of existing business inventions such as conference calling putting an end to the need for long haul international flights altogether, because you can just speak to who you need to online.
