Recall on Hip Replacement Requires Immediate Action

DePuy Orthopedics Inc. a subsidiary of the Johnson and Johnson Company has announced its recall on its products, the ASR XL acetabular hip system and ASR Hip resurfacing systems after there have been numerous complaints of malfunction and injury caused by the devices.

The reason for this recall on hip replacement is also the high revision rate of the hip replacement systems. Statistics from DePuy showed that 12% of patients who have received the ASR resurfacing device and 13% of the patient who have been implanted by the total hip replacement needed to have yet another surgery or what they call as the revision surgery.

Approximately, 93,000 people have been implanted of the defective hip replacement devices. These large number of people are all at risk or maybe already suffering from serious injuries caused by the malfunction of the device.

Most of the patients complain of lingering pain, swelling, loosening and even dislocating of the implant device. These damages cause them too much suffering and discomfort and the only permanent solution to this is to have another surgery done to replace the defective hip replacement system with a new one. This revision surgery means additional expenses and painful procedures.

The ASR hip system has been manufactured and distributed since July 2003, meaning all of the patients who had hip surgery on or after this date may be subject to this recall on hip replacement. If you had your surgery in these dates, it is best to contact your doctor and inquire if the replacement system you had is one of the defective hip replacement device of DePuy, but, if you had your hip implant before the said date, you can be calm because you will not be affected by this recall.

If you are sure that you are affected by this recall, it is best to contact Hip recall lawyers immediately. They are professionals when it comes to this matter. They can tell you what to do next and may even represent you in court against the manufacturing company for you to get the compensation you deserve after the damages the defective hip system has caused you.

Urgent action is needed if you are affected by this recall on hip replacement because the law only allows a certain period of time for patients who have been subject to these defective hip replacement systems to take action. So, there is no reason to delay.
