Italian Hatchback

The Italian car manufacturer Fiat has been producing the Grande Punto since 2005, it replaced the outgoing Punto. The new Grande Punto is based on the Fiat-GM Small platform. Although the new model shares some of its components with the older Punto major components were unique to the Grande Punto, hence the slightly altered name.

Initially on its release the Fiat Punto in Cardiff came with an array of engine options, from a 1.2 litre petrol to a 1.3 diesel. Now though, there is only one engine option on the Punto, the 1.4 litre petrol. Fiat decided to cut back on its engine options as the 1.4 litre was by far the most popular and other variants weren't selling well enough to warrant their continual inclusion. There are only two models within in the range now, either the 3 door or 5 door Sound.

The Sound trim level includes remote central locking, ABS, electric front windows, power steering and two airbags, as well as a CD player and body-coloured door handles, bumpers and mirrors. The Sound trim level includes remote central locking, ABS, electric front windows, power steering and two airbags, as well as a CD player and body-coloured door handles, bumpers and mirrors.

Like most Italian cars the Grande Punto handles very well, it is sharp, finds plenty of grip, steers accurately and there is very little body roll. Being a sporty hatchback the ride can be quite firm around town but once on the open road this levels out. The light steering is perfect for city and town driving as well as parking in tight spots.Like most Italian cars the Grande Punto handles very well, it is sharp, finds plenty of grip, steers accurately and there is very little body roll. The Fiat Grande Punto is a well refined model; at cruising speeds some engine noise can be heard. On poor surfaces road and suspension noise can be heard in the cabin other than that wind and tyre noise are non-existent.
