2011 couldn't have started better for Mercedes Benz, the German Marque achieved its largest ever January share of the UK automotive market. Sales grew by almost 25% in comparison to last January, even though last January was fuelled by the scrappage scheme. Mercedes also captured 4% of the market share, which is its best January performance since records began.

For the past 2 years Mercedes has reported an opening month market share of 2.9%, the 4% share this year is a remarkable achievement. The Mercedes C Class model was once again the best selling model for the brand; its sales were up by over 28%. The Mercedes C Class estate recorded an increase of 56.9% compared to last January. The practical Mercedes E Class recorded an increase of 10%. The Mercedes Benz A Class also outperformed its last year's figures.

Mercedes Benz Managing Director Gary Savage said, "Seizing this growing share of the rising UK car market was an outstanding landmark performance by Mercedes Benz, its sales teams around the country and its retailer network," he explained. "What's more it continues our record-breaking market share set last year and has been achieved even before we introduce our improved new generation C-Class models, due here in March, and this year's all-new arrivals, the latest CLS Coupe, C-Class Coupe and SLK."
