In fact, many say the German government had a large part in convincing VW to keep car production at Osnabruck. The president of German personally visited the car plant on a fact finding visit which also coincided with the celebration of the first VW Golf Cabriolet rolling off the production line. The Golf Cabriolet had been suspended from the range for a few years, replaced by the EOS and the new Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet in Ruislip.

The Volkswagen car plant in Osnabruck covers the entire automotive process chain from vehicle development through tooling to production. As well as the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet VW also plans to use the Osnabruck plant as an overflow facility for manufacturing the Porsche brand Boxster and Cayman models going forward. The plant has a total annual capacity of roughly 100,000 units. Volkswagen will have invested approximately 300 million Euros in the new Osnabruck plant by the end of this year.
