About Complimentary Therapies and Mediumship for Self-Awareness and Inner Well Being

People have always been slightly fascinated by what lies over on "the other side", when spirit departs flesh and yet does not disappear. There are those whose brief it is to communicate with said spirits and to advise and reassure those who grieve their passing.

A medium is defined as "an organ of communication with spirits", whose role is bring about communication between those spirits and those with whom they wish to communicate.

A psychic is a person who is able to tap into information which is hidden from the normal senses, and sometimes conveying that information to third parties.

Mediumship manifests itself in several ways. Mental mediumship describes the process through which the medium receives thoughts, feelings, emotions and information through the mind. The medium then interprets all the information, whether verbally or in any other form, to the recipient.

Sometimes the medium will enter into a trance (known as "trance mediumship"), otherwise known as an "altered state of consciousness". Often this will induce behaviour that is inspired by the spirit in contact, whether it be speech, writing, artistic creativity or something similar.

The essence of trance mediumship is that the medium becomes distanced from all that is going on around and absorbed into a deeper state of consciousness that enables him or her to draw solely on the spirit present without the medium's own thoughts or deeds being allowed to distort the message.

The third type of mediumship invokes the power to heal. The medium acts as a kind of conductor of energy that derives from a spiritual source and is then channelled into the person undergoing the healing.

Mediums certainly do have their fair share of critics. Those who pour scorn on their work accuse them either of deliberate trickery or of being delusional. In defence the medium will cite testimony from those they have worked for and assisted.

What isn't always appreciated is that those involved in mediumship and psychic healing are not in every case jealously protective of their talents. On the contrary, many trained and qualified healers offer courses and classes to encourage others to create self-awareness and promote well being.

Sometimes these focus not only on psychic awareness and healing, but also on holistic and relaxing complimentary therapies which include de-stressing techniques and meditation, as well as treatments such as reiki, Indian head massage and ear candling treatments.

The medium assists a lot of people from all walks of life in improving their lot, generating happiness and awareness of one's own inner self along the way.
