Medicare Supplement Plans in Georgia: Free Offer, Get a Senior Scooter Now Qualify Easily

Will Medicare buy you a scooter? Does your GA Medicare supplement plan pay the bill or is this a come on? Will your Georgia Medicare gap plan cover or will you be stuck?

You have seen the commercials. Some company has a slick sales pitch that promises to send you a motorized scooter at no charge and no risk. Pick up the phone. "Call now! Operators are standing by."

Sounds too good to be true, right? But you can't go to a mall or grocery store without seeing motorized carts and powerized wheelchairs all over the place.

And those TV commercials aren't cheap. They wouldn't run the commercials if they couldn't deliver, right?

Will your Georgia senior citizen health insurance plan really pay for a power wheelchair?

Earl Has Difficulty Getting Around

Earl lives alone following his stroke and is having trouble getting around his home. A walker is clumsy and he just wants to be able to do things at home and in public without worrying about falling an breaking a hip. A motorized wheelchair would be wonderful, but he knows they must be expensive.

Living on a fixed income, Earl wonders if he could afford a scooter.

You may not be Earl, but you probably can identify with him and wonder the same thing. Can you really qualify for Medicare approved motorized chair at no cost to you?

The answer is yes, if you meet Medicare qualifications. Senior citizens in GA who have original Medicare and a gap plan can really get a free electric wheelchair.

To qualify for MAE (mobility assistive equipment), also known as a scooter, you must meet the following.

Have a health condition where you need help with activities of daily living like bathing, dressing, getting in or out of the bed or chair, moving around, or using the bathroom

Be able to safely operate and get on and off the wheelchair or scooter

Have good vision

Be mentally able to safely use a scooter, or have someone with you who can make sure the device is used correctly and safely

The equipment also must be useful within the physical layout of your home (it must not be too big for your home or blocked by things in its path).

Don't Call Now!

Also, never order anything unless your doctor has prescribed it. Your doctor must carefully document your need before the device is covered by Medicare and your supplement plan.

If you qualify, your MAE is a covered expense under Medicare Part B. Medicare will pay 80% of the Medicare approved amount after you have satisfied your Part B deductible ($162 in 2011) and you pay the remaining 20%.

When you have a good Georgia "gap" policy, such as plan F, you could truly pay nothing. Your Medicare supplement plan F pays your Part B deductible for you as well as the remaining 20% not covered by Medicare.

That means you pay nothing! Medicare and your GA supplemental health plan pays the bill in full.

All Medicare supplement policies are standardized so a plan F from BCBSGA (Blue Cross of Georgia) has exactly the same benefits as a plan F from Gerber, Mutual of Omaha or any other carrier. The only difference is the monthly premium you pay and why would you want to pay more for the exact same plan when you could get it for less?
