So It's Garden panting time . Well down here in the south it's past garden planting time ,but anyway The trees are going green everything is alive. There just is't anything like gathering up the vegetables you grew yourself. You planted, weeded, watered and brought all that goodness up to be enjoyed by you and your family .We are thrilled every day at how fast some of it has grown from just one day to the next .It's like you can almost see it growing
Nothing like the goodness grown by your own hands. I believe more and more people are starting and maintaining a garden this year. The reasons to have a garden seem to be a lot more this year . One good reason among many others is the economy. The economy is lousy and getting worse and grocery bills are rising . Well we really should have always had some kind of a garden all along. If for no other reason just for the good wholesome goodness and exercise .
There is a kind of warm felling when you are working in your garden, kind of a satisfied feeling after a little work out in the lush greenery . There is a good feeling when you can give away beautiful red ripe tomatoes and carrots and such to your friends and family.
Some things to consider before getting started, If you haven't already is
1 just how long is your growing season where you live
2 planning what size of garden are you going to be wanting
3 what type of plants grow well in your climate zone
I'm sure there are other things to consider, but that certainly is a good start
Here, where we are here in the south we can plant several times a year. Me and my wife are going to start her new greenhouse in a few days . I believe if managed right she will be able to grow some things year round. I guess it will depend on just how severe the seasons are I'm going to build it about 12 foot x 10 foot wide. For this greenhouse I'm going to plumb water into the greenhouse for a faucet. You would want water misters overhead also if possible. I was planning on using store bought water mister hoses for the sheer convenience. Also you would want ventilation, especially in the summer months. And a thermostatically controlled heat source for the winter months.
If you've got a greenhouse you can get a jump on spring. Then after the risk of frost is over you can set out and plant your greenhouse plants plants.
Now after you plant your regular garden you will have pests. They will eat your garden like they were invited. I have learned a trick that really works well. I tried it as an experiment and it worked I We learned this trick strictly by accident . I tell everyone who will listen. Find you a weather proof radio turn it up about half way on an easy music channel and the plants will love it and the pests will run . Make sure it's weather proof.
