If you want to make money online the only thing you will ever have to pay for is information (apart from services like web hosting or domain name). Someone will have to teach you how to do it.
Information is also what your potential customers are looking for. Think of what you want when you look for a product online. You want to know what it looks like, what it feels like, is it good, is it worth the money, how reliable it is and so on. Information is the most important thing here.
On the Internet information equals value. Judging value will allow you to stay away from scams when you try to get stared online. Apply a simple test, how much value will your actions create. Next time you come across a product "You Are Only Twelve Clicks Away From $400.000 Monthly Income" you will know what to think about it.
