5 SEO Mistakes

1. Non-descript URL. Let's say your site is about dog walking, your site is packed full of useful content good keywords, and links but your sites URL address has ablankwebsite.com and nothing that references anything about what your site is about. Your URL should match the content of your site, and can even use a keyword from it.

2. Your pictures have no alt tags. An alt tag is simply a keyword or a description for that picture telling you what it is. While it's not vital to have a full blown description, there should be something there. It's also not important that every single picture on your site have an alt tag, but your main ones should such as your logo for example.

3. No back links. When it comes to SEO one of if not the most important aspect is getting quality one way back links that point back to your site. No back links means that Google won't view your site as being that popular and you won't go up in search engine rankings or page rank. If you can't get back links from other websites or blogs right away, focus on getting links from book marking sites such as Stumbleupon and Digg that have their content crawled on a daily basis. Create articles, Hub pages, Squidoo lens pages, and videos that all point back to your site.

4. Bad keywords

This could mean that you've picked a keyword that's competition is too high for you to rank well for, or one that nobody looks up. Use sites like Google keyword tool or Word tracker to find relevant keywords for your site. Also avoid using vague keywords.

5. There's nothing to read

You can have all the right keywords, hours of searching for back links, and the perfect page setup mean jack squat if you don't have anything for content. While using pictures, videos, and widgets can help and compliment what you're trying to get across they should not be a dominating factor. Remember people are there because you are offering information or trying to convince them to buy something from you.
