Self Discipline and Habit Creation - For Network Marketers.
Self discipline and habit creation is one of those mysterious skills which can be learnt over time and one of the imperative ingredients necessary for us to accomplish the goals and dreams we want.
Few indeed are people who satisfy their capability, and it is not because we lack ability, flair or desire, more so as we get bewildered in the complexities and flow of life and only infrequently realise and complete the things we undertake.
All the same all is not lost. Through developing the degree of self discipline we bring to bear in our lives it is practicable, over a period, to materially improve both our performance and productivity.
We have not created our existing circumstances overnight; we are the totality of all the decisions (some more critical than others) we have made.
Through developing our self discipline through the exertion of chosen habits we are able to raise the rate and speed we can reach our objectives.
Yet, before we can cultivate this self discipline, a few things should be understood.
Our lives are the development of our habits, some we have selected, the majority being inculcated by means of upbringing, education etc.
If we are to improve things, we need:
a) Select our negative self defeating habits and
b) Pick the ones we wish to supersede them with.
Once we can root our chosen habits into our activity, it is these habits which will forge the future we desire.
A few steps are necessary to improve self discipline, as like any acquired skill, it is controlled a step at a time, to the degree it becomes part of our sub-conscious modus operandi.
Four Things are required:
1. An ingrained and clear comprehension of what it is we seek to produce.
2. Habits. Whether we concede or not, the majority of of our actions are performed at the subconscious level; driving, eating, tieing our shoelaces etc and it is necessary to bring this habit up to conscious understanding, before we can address it.
Only a habit can replace another habit, and as it is our habits which have produced the situation we wish to change, then we really need select, and then implement our chosen new habits into our lives.
3. What gets measured gets managed.
If the greater part of our activities are truly undertaken at the sub subconscious level, before we can influence and change, we need first force the decision into the domain of the conscious; we do that by focus:
Choose an area of life we seek to enhance (lose weight, get fitter, increase sales etc) and then bring this action into conscious attention by observing how many times we perform that activity daily. This basic act of noting down (on paper) the prevalence will bring it into our awareness and once in our attention we can influence.
4. Start small. By setting initial targets too high, we are certainly positioning ourselves for failure. By selecting a target we can attain, will, through its very achievement ,yield a platform on which we can build.
Through focusing on our positive achievements, we can build a pattern of success into our actions and thus build the self belief, confidence and self discipline we require.
