10 Mistakes To Avoid in Twitter
When used properly Twitter can enhance your marketing, your business profile and your operations. However, there is a danger that as it's so new you may make some of the following fundamental mistakes that void the usefulness of Twitter for your business.
Not setting your profile up with a bio and proper photo. If you don't have them other people tend to think you're not really committed to Twitter and might even be a spammer and either unfollow you or never even follow you in the first place.
Using hashtags for every topic you tweet about. It soon gets tiresome for your followers and is pointless.
Protecting updates, which means nobody can have any conversations with you. Which if you're trying to use social media to enhance your business has the opposite effect.

Never re-tweeting. If you don't re-tweet it shows that you're not really paying much attention to the tweets you're getting. As there's always something you can retweet that's useful to your own followers. And because the perception is that you're using Twitter to broadcast your message rather than join the conversation people will ignore your messages too.
Chasing after un-follows. People follow people whose tweets they think may be interesting, useful or both. If they find your style, your tweet rate or your usefulness quite what they wanted they will unfollow. Trying to get them back is a useless exercise as there are plenty of others they can try who may be more exactly who they want to follow anyway.
Don't tweet complete trivia, such as the weather or hello or goodbye! It's boring and clutters up the timeline. Do too much and people will simply unfollow you.
Don't make Twitter a work avoidance tool. Whilst Twitter can be a bit addictive you do need to be disciplined in its use. Otherwise you can spend time simply browsing Tweets, following new people and having conversations when there are other higher priority tasks you need to do.
Forgetting that each Tweet stays "forever" on the Internet. Remember that on the Internet everything you say is held in storage and can be searched on. So if you say anything libellous, or snide or just plain wrong it will remain there for ever.
