Though it was once little more than a coastal fishing village in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai has now grown into one the world's must popular cities, and one which is often considered a playground for the rich and famous. However thanks to its increasing popularity as a holiday destination, the price of visiting Dubai has gradually gone down and now the city makes for a great short-stay holiday for anybody. Of course, Dubai was built on oil but thankfully huge amounts of that money has been invested into the city's tourism industry as, when the oil runs out, the city will obviously have to find another serious income. Thankfully they hit the nail on the head and, for tourists, there are few destinations anywhere near as exciting to visit as Dubai.
The first must see' Dubai attraction is one which you'll struggle to miss. The Burj Khalifa is in fact the world's tallest building and as such can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. Standing 828m tall, the best view of the city can be found from the Observation Deck on the 124th floor: though book in advance as it's very popular. Like its equally impressive and luxurious American cousin Las Vegas, Dubai is a city in which you should expect the unexpected. That's why Ski Dubai has become a huge attraction too. There's not a lot of snow in the Middle East, so Ski Dubai is the first indoor ski resort in the region, with enough routes, slopes and jumps to satisfy any level of skier, plus all equipment is available to hire.
For a little more adventure and the chance to momentarily escape the buzz of the city, head out on a desert safari. Huge four-by-fours come and pick you up from your hotel and drive out to the desert where you can ride a camel, enjoy classic Middle Eastern cuisine by sunset and even camp through the night. However, the dune bashing is the most exciting opportunity, as the all-terrain vehicles take you on a thrill ride through the sand dunes you'll never forget.
Back to the city and lots more man-made wonders are to be found. Burj Al Arab Hotel is the only 7-star hotel in the world, meaning quite simply, no hotel is as luxurious. You don't have to be a guest to make the most of the hotel's many amazing restaurants either, each catering to a different taste. Often described as one of the wonders of the modern world, no visitor should leave without first seeing the Palm Jumeirah. This man-made archipelago in the shape of a palm tree is exactly what makes Dubai so special. On it are world class restaurants and hotels, as well as shopping malls and superb beaches. Of course, if shopping is your thing then Dubai is ideal, as this is where the super-wealthy come to find the best designer brands on offer. Dubai flights are regularly getting cheaper thanks to more and more carriers recognising the city's superb holiday experience.
