And I made the statement that I questioned both the motivation and the sincerity of 75% of the coaches out there, in that most folks don't need a coach at all, but some do. One issue we have is that folks have such low-self esteem they actually believe they need a coach to succeed. My acquaintance and professional business coach debater stated;
"How does a weak person get stronger? Not by hanging out with other weak people. He needs to hang out with someone stronger in order to become stronger."
Why yes, that makes perfect sense to me. Which brings me to another point and that is if one is to get a small business coach or life coach, they better get someone who is stronger than them. The only challenge there is that those who are self-employed are already much stronger psychologically than those who aren't.
So, the coach that is the right choice, may be a lot harder to come by than you might ever imagine. So, why are so many people weak in the mind, or have a low-psychological sperm count? And what are those sorts of folks even doing in business in the first place, what made them mentally weak? My acquaintance explains it to me this way;
People are largely environmental. We unconsciously model those that we're around, the influences we absorb. Meaning people are shaped significantly by their environment in everything from relational patterns, communication, habits, philosophy, religion, etc.
Okay, I think we get that picture, but I wasn't going to let this coaching guru off the hook that easy, so I told him; Now you sound like a psychologist! I find these arguments more like "excuses" - it's not Johnny's fault he gunned down that clerk and robbed his liquor store - he grew up in a bad neighborhood?
Yah, well before 1970 only 2 billionaires had ever finished college. There are so many achievers in so many industries, with no real mentors, self-taught. I don't do political correctness, and I think psychology is a pseudo science. So, having a psychology degree certainly doesn't automatically give one the credentials to be a coach. Still, my acquaintance harps on this issue and further states:
"Most of our behavior and habits are unconscious."
Oh my? Some, I suppose, Freud follower ehy? Would you like to know what I think of Psychologists? Seriously can you handle it? I have more respect for animal abusers, people who litter on the freeway, and gangster Rappers than psychologists. But that's just me. Why would a small business person hire a coach who is weaker mentally than they are, or one who is going to play with their minds, guaranteeing a never ending destiny with steep professional psychology fees?
I hope not you.
