Winter Weddings

Winter is a beautiful time of year. You can dress in your favourite clothes, eat warm hearty foods, sleep in and enjoy the cool weather wrapped up in your bed. While these are all good, there are advantages to planning for a Winter Wedding.

Spring and summer are the most popular months for weddings in Australia as the weather is warm and sunny. For many of us this is perfect for a wedding. However if you are finding venues and caterers already booked out, or wait lists too long then a winter wedding may be a great alternative.

Venues you will find are more readily available during the winter months, depending on your location. There will be less demand, and you will generally find that prices may be more reasonable to your purse strings as minimum numbers may not apply like the peak summer months. This may mean you can ultimately cut the price of your wedding, select a venue that you may not have a chance to hire or use the extra money to invite extra guests that would have blown your budget previously.

Catering is also a great money saver when planning a wedding. September through to December is extremely busy times for catering companies, especially those that cater for the wedding market. If you are flexible with your schedule July through to August may be a great time to easily secure your preferred catering company. Winter catering can provide some beautiful warm finger foods for guests to enjoy, followed by a hearty warm dinner to complete the night.

Wedding Ceremonies can be held in churches, venues or outside. If you are considering an outside wedding ceremony, do consider the weather and time spent exposed to the elements. Photos can be really great in winter time as the sun is not so harsh, and people won't be covering up in hats and sunglasses. Winter weddings are perfect for couples also that have delicate skin, you can enjoy the wedding you always wanted without having to over concern yourself with sunscreen and keeping your skin protected from the summer rays.

Decorations can also be tailored to suit the season of your wedding. Summer flowers are generally bright coloured. During winter you can include more romantic red flowers, a touch of black lace over your white table clothes and place large candles around the room to create a beautiful romantic soft glow. Perfect for wedding photos and your bridal dance.

While your heart may be set on a summer wedding, don't discount winter weddings and the great opportunities they provide. Ask your wedding planner, venue and catering company about catering during the winter months. You may be pleasantly surprised how you can create the perfect wedding without the pressure of a summer wedding.
