Staying in one of the Toronto hotels near the airport is not recommended unless you have a plane to catch the morning after. There are good airport hotels in Toronto but transit options from the airport to downtown are a bit expensive. It is not feasible especially when you're on a tight budget. Staying near the airport will make you hard to visit Toronto's tourist destinations.

If you're going to Toronto in summer, you should book your accommodations early. You'll have a hard time booking for a hotel room during the Toronto International Film Festival, a ten day event that starts on the Thursday after Labor Day.

You wouldn't find rooms from any Toronto downtown hotels advertised at under $100 a night but you could search for discount rates online. Major brand-name hotels have online discount rates when you book through their web site.

If you're sport fan then you'll probably want to find a hotel near the Rogers Center, which is home to Argonauts CFL football and the Blue Jays baseball. It is also the site of concerts and events throughout the year.
