Architectural Buildings And The Fabulous History In Nerja Spain

This increasingly popular resort is situated on a cliff and built above ancient and sandy coves, with the magnificent Sierra de Almijara mountain range as a natural back drop, and is geographically placed on Spain's southern Mediterranean coast, some 50 miles east from Malaga.

This old fishing town was once named Narixa, which is the Arabic term for 'abundant spring', from as far back as the 8th century AD, but long before that, it was the Romans who had taken possession of this land and who had built three settlements in the area. One of them was named Detunda, of which large remains of its existence remain to this day.

Strolling along the Balcony of Europe, (El Balcon de Europa), which is the town's famous centre piece, and which is built on a rock promontory projects leading out to the sea, your eyes and senses, would be embracing the awe inspiring 180 degree panoramic sea views across the Mediterranean horizon, especially during a golden sunrise or sunset.

The sweeping coast line, from east to west, is the jewel in its crown. The promenade also has many cafes and restaurants in which one can languish, to enjoy a fabulous range of cuisine.

There is indisputable evidence to support the belief that this ancient town gives vital clues to the fascinating links to the origins of mankind, which have as yet, not been fully explored due to a vast network of potholes leading down to caves, which stretch from this area for many miles into the mountain ranges to as far as Malaga.

Links which tie all of the genetic codes together, because only as recent as 1959AD, and not by archaeologists, but by three friends, only some 52 years ago, which in real time are not even one full tick of the clock, the fabulous Nerja Caves were discovered, and which lead into a vast labyrinth of tunnels that were there before mankind was born.

One of these caves is huge, and is formed into the shape of an amphitheatre, thus simultaneously returns a haunting and beautiful acoustic presence, which is why regular concerts of all kinds of music are played in it. So, if you are a music lover and are on holiday in Nerja, and present at one such concert, close your eyes, and imagine you are listening to angels singing.
