Who Really Needs Photo Printers?
Who Really Needs Photo Printers?

Photo printers all appear to be a grand idea for this age of digital photography. But is it only a new toy or do you really have to have a photo printer?

For many people the answer would be no, they do not need photo printers, but they are very nice to have. Printing photos at the local photo shop can be expensive, particularly if you do it often. The more often you have a need to print photos the more probable you are to really make good use of a photo printer.

Consider how many photos you take every month and then how many of those you actually have printed at your local photo shop. Then consider how many more you would print if you have constant access to photo printers.

For those professional or budding photographers, it may not be a bad idea at all to have their own photo printers. They will be likely to print large quantities of photos each month because it is their livelihood. It is possible to make more profit on the sale of a photo you have printed yourself than a photo you have had printed at a photo shop.

If you are not a photographer, how often are you actually going to look at the photos you have printed? If you are the kind of person who loves to go through old photos by hand and lay them all around you, then a photo printer may not be a bad investment.

You do have to be aware that you'll probably print more photos if you have the facilities at home to do so than if you need to drive out to a store to print them. This means that you have to take into account quite a bit more paper and ink than you would think and you may end up spending more each month if you own photo printers than if you get them printed at a shop.

Are your memories vivid enough should you keep them in digital form, or do you feel closer to them if you're able to touch them and hold them near to you?
