Christ is the light of humanity: this sacred synod, gathered together in the Holy Spirit, therefore wishes ardently proclaiming the Gospel to every creature (cf. Mk 16:15), to enlighten all people with the light of Christ that shines on the face of the Church . Since the Church is in Christ, somehow the sacrament, a sign and instrument of intimate union with God and the unity of all mankind, continuing the theme of previous councils, aims to more clearly illustrate the his faithful and the world's nature and its universal mission. These terms and conditions of the world add greater urgency to this work of the Church, that all men, joined more closely today by various social, technical and cultural, can also achieve full unity in Christ.Universal salvific will of the Father2.
The eternal Father, by a free and secret of his wisdom and goodness, created the universe, decided to raise men to share His divine life, after their fall in Adam did not abandon them, but always lent their aid to save in view of Christ the Redeemer, "who is the image of God, the firstborn over all creation" (Col 1:15). For all who chose, the Father from eternity 'them and separate them predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren "(Rom 8:29). Believers in Christ wanted them to call to form the holy Church, which already announced figures until the beginning of the world, wonderfully prepared in the history of the people of Israel and the Ancient Covenant [1], and finally established "in Lately, "has been manifest in the glorious fulfillment of the spirit and will to the end of time. So, in fact, as stated in the holy Fathers, all the righteous from Adam, "the righteous Abel to the last elected [2], will be reunited with the Father in the universal Church.Mission of the Son3. Came then the Son, sent by the Father who chose us in him before the foundation of the world and predestined us to become adopted sons, for in Him all things (cf. Eph 1.4 to 5 and 10).
So Christ, to fulfill the will of the Father, has inaugurated the kingdom of heaven on earth and revealed to us the mystery of him, and his obedience he brought about redemption. The Church as the Kingdom of Christ already present in mystery, grows visibly through the power of God in the world. This inauguration and this growth is symbolized by the blood and water which flowed from the open side of the crucified Jesus (cf. Jn 19:34), and are foretold in the words of the Lord's death on the cross: "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all to me "(Jn 12:32). Every time the sacrifice of the Cross by which 'Christ our Pasch has been sacrificed (1 Cor 5:7), is celebrated on the altar, renew the work of our redemption. And, in the sacrament of the Eucharistic bread, is represented and maintained the unity of all believers who form one body in Christ (cf. 1 Cor 10:17).
All men are called to this union with Christ, who is the light of the world, from whom we come, we live through him, to whom we are led.The Spirit sanctifies the Church4. When the work which the Father gave the Son on earth (cf. Jn 17:4), the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit was sent to continually sanctify the Church and that believers have access to the Father through Christ, so in one Spirit (cf. Eph 2:18). He is the Spirit who gives life, a spring of water welling up to eternal life (cf. Jn 4:14; 7.38 to 39) by the Father gives his life to those who are dead because of sin, until one day he will rise again in Christ their mortal bodies (cf. Rom 8.10-11). The Spirit dwells in the Church and in the hearts of the faithful, as in a temple (cf. 1 Cor 3.16, 6.19) and in them he prays and bears witness to their status as children of God by adoption (cf. Gal 4:6 , Rm 8:15-16 and 26). He leads the Church into the fullness of truth (cf. Jn 16:13) and unifying her in communion and ministry, equips and directs with hierarchical and charismatic gifts, adorning its fruits (cf. Eph 4.11-12 , 1 Cor 12:4, Gal 5:22). With the power of the Gospel rejuvenates, continually renews and leads to perfect union with her Spouse [3]. The Spirit and the bride say to the Lord Jesus, Come "(cf. Rev 22:17).Thus, the Church presents itself as "a people made one with the unity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit" [4].
