The pressures of work, family and friends can pile up and even though the thought of doing something to help those less fortunate than ourselves is appealing, we often feel too time poor and rushed to do so. And so the motivation or interest to help goes unrecognised and unrealised.
What most people don't realise, however, is that it is possible to help without going to the. It is within our power to make a difference to the lives of others from afar - every little bit of effort and support from the global community helps alleviate the problems. No donation or act of support is too little! If you're interested in playing your part in the fight against poverty, then here are some easy, affordable and valued ways of helping.
- Volunteer your time. If you don't have a lot of money to donate or the means to travel to disadvantaged areas of the world then donate your time to a local charity. Volunteering gives aid organisations the manpower and resources necessary to help others and help get things done. Important volunteer roles can be anything from office admin, fundraising or offering your professional skills for free - such as PR or advertising services.
- Donate money. The easiest way to contribute to the fight against poverty is to donate money to worthwhile organisations. Most non-profit charitable organisations rely on the generosity of donors. Money donations go towards the good work and initiatives of charitable and aid organisations and donated money helps fund their programs to help give others a better chance in life.
- Sponsor a child. The most disadvantaged people in the world are women and children in developing countries. Programs that sponsor children help combat this cycle of disadvantage by giving children access to improved education, housing, food and shelter conditions. If you're interested in child sponsorship, charity organisations around the world provide programs through which you give a monthly donation to an assigned child. The money is directed to the community in which the nominated child lives to help improve their living conditions and wellbeing.
It is possible to help fight world poverty and do your bit to help from afar. No contribution is too small, and it is a combined, collective effort of many that will help break cycles of poverty and disadvantage.
