Having purchased a new property and looking forward to moving in you are obviously thinking about where your new couch is going and whether or not the old coffee table with match the wooden flooring.
How you set up your living space is more important than you might think it will effect your moods and your enjoyment of your new home after all you will be seeing it and spending your time there every single day.
Here are some things to keep in mind when kitting out your new home
Old Vs New
You might be tempted to go out and buy a whole new range of furniture and throw out the old set, but old and new mix together beautifully with a little creativity.
Before you discard the old rocking chair your mother left you try and reupholster it or paint the wooden a dark purple (or any colour you wish) this will save you the expense of purchasing a new chair and your old chair will have an instantly fresh and modern look.
Take a look at your old furniture and give some thought to how you can creatively revamp it before throwing it out.
Picking Colours
If you are a colour person and enjoy rich hues and primary splashes or colour then don't hold back when deciding on the colour of your walls or couches. Bright colours express who you are and give your space the individuality that compliments your personality. It is your space after all don't be shy to decorate it exactly how you want it.
If you are a person who enjoys neutral, earthy shades you can add a flavour of personal touch by introducing patterned throw pillows or a selective piece (be it a lamp or a rug or a random painting) of colour. This piece can be easily exchanged for another colour should you later decide the impact is not to your liking.
Try and work around a theme of neutrals with a small dash of colour.
Lighting & Air
Your lighting in your home is a strong impact for mood. Soft candle light for an evening dinner creates a beautiful mood, you can even recreate the effect of candle light with strategically placed lamps or wall lights. Ensure that you have sufficient lighting should you decide to curl up on your couch and read, but also lighting that is soft enough to create a comforting mood in the night time.
Air should be able to flow freely through your home. Don't position big pot plants or book cases in front of windows. Air flow and natural light and two important factors that should compliment your home and not be hindered by your decoration.
