China Turns to the EU and the USA to Make up the Lack of Supplies from Japan

TheearthquakeandtsunamihadgreatimpactonJapan'sexportsofsemiconductors,chipsforelectronicdevices,precisioninstruments,industrialbearings,autoandelectroniccomponents.Thecatastropheledtothesuspensionofmanyelectro-mechanicalandautomanufacturerssuchasSony,Sharp,Toyota,Toshiba,NissanandHonda.MorethanhalfofdomesticelectronicprocessingenterprisesinChinaagreewiththeopinionthattheimport,communicationandlogisticsofJapaneseelectro-mechanicalproductshavebeenaffectedseverely.
JapanesevehiclesalesinChinatakeupto27percentoftheChinamarket,theshortageofmotorcomponentswillleadtofewercarsproductioninChinabyJapanesemanufacturers.Thus,manybuyerswillturntoGerman,FrenchorAmericancars.
WithseveralfactoriesinChina,NissanMotorCorporationsaysitsstorageofsomecomponentswilllasttotheendofMarch.ButwhenthesuppliesfromJapanwillresumeisunsure,andifthatkindofsituationlastfortoolong,theywillchoosetobuycomponentsfromEuropeancountries.EricssonLtdinChina'sbranchsaidthatithasbeentryingitsbesttomaintainthesuppliesofcomponentssuchassemiconductors,memorychipsandbatteries.
Therearestillalargenumberofhigh-techcomponentsneedtobeimportedfromJapan,whilethefullresumeofsemiconductorsandelectronicchipscannotachieveinashorttime.SoChineseenterprisesshouldgetreadyforimportingexpensiveprecisioninstrumentsandbearingsfromGermany,SwitzerlandandSweden,electronicchipsfromSiliconValleyandvehiclecomponentsfromDetroit.
With13percentofexportofmachinery,electronicproducts,vehicleandsoon,JapanwasthethirdbiggesttradingpartnertoChinalastyear.BilateraltradebetweenChinaandJapanare21billiondollarsinFebruary,andChinahaveadeficitof4.62billiondollars,accordingtoreportonChinaDaily.ItalsosaidthattheshortageofJapaneseelectro-mechanicalproductstosomeextentwillreinforcethehigh-techtradecooperationsbetweenChina,theEUandUSAinthesecondhalfofthisyear.TherelatedintegratedcircuitisMA781.
