Most religions teach that humans are born sinful.They tell us that we suffer and die because we're flawed and we can only be redeemed through some type of painful sacrifice. Since most of the world believes in some variation of these concepts, we need to know whether or not they have any value.
Where did the concept of sin come from? Since we read about sin in sacred tests, we could assume that God told humans they were sinful. Is this true, or is there more to it than that? Our ancient ancestors didn't understand natural phenomenon like earthquakes, tornados, floods or volcanoes and they needed a way to explain the devastation caused by these forces. They also needed ways to make sense of accidents, illnesses, old age, violence, suffering and death.
Our ancient ancestors decided that supernatural powers must be controlling natural phenomenon.When good things happened, they decided they must be doing something to please these powers. When bad things happened they had to be doing something to displease the powers. They decided there must also be a division between good powers (gods and goddesses) and bad powers (devils and demons). They invented the concept of sin to explain the events that displeased the gods.
Religions were formed when people decided they had to appease supernatural powers.Eventually our ancestors decided that the universe was locked in a struggle between good and evil. To survive, they had to figure out how to please the gods and avoid the devils, so they compiled codes of conduct that became sacred texts. They also decided the gods could only be appeased by sacrifice. Sometimes these sacrifices were a portion of their crops, but often they required the shedding of blood. Priests and clergy came into existence to teach the rules, offer sacrifices and mediate between men and gods.
Ancient ideas still affect our thinking, but quantum discoveries will soon force a change. Our ancient ancestors had to rely on what their eyes told them, but we don't. What happens at the quantum (subatomic) level of the universe is very different from what happens in the visible world. We see a universe of separate forms that appear to act independently. At the quantum level, the universe is an indivisible sea of interconnected energy. In reality, the universe is one thing that cannot be divided into parts.
Quantum oneness means sin is impossible. Our quantum universe cannot be divided into good or evil parts that could war against each other. If that happened, the universe could not continue to exist. The universe can no longer be thought of in terms of good vs. evil. Sin, suffering and sacrifice are concepts humans created to explain a world they didn't understand.
How can we explain the problems we see on earth? As strange as it may seem, quantum physics tells us that the visible world is an illusion, a virtual reality, that's projected from consciousness that exists at the quantum level. This is something spiritual sages, including Jesus, have realized for centuries. What is sin? They explain that we cannot sin, but we do make a mistake when we choose to think that this illusionary projection is real. Happily, this mistake is easily corrected.
We can cling to misperceptions, or claim freedom from sin, suffering and sacrifice. Quantum physics will inevitably alter our world view. In the process, it can relieve us of outdated misperceptions and open our minds to fresh and relevant ways to find real meaning and purpose. The choice is yours.
