Non Profit Donations In Lean Times
Non Profit Donations In Lean Times

When times are tough as they have been the last few years we all feel a little apprehension parting with our hard earned cash. It's not that we are bad people or that we don't care, but when the future is unsure and our finances are not guaranteed our wallets can get a little tighter. It can be scary, not knowing where your next meal is coming from, not knowing if there will be enough money to cover possible emergency medical expenses. Luckily, most of us will never fall that far beneath the cracks and it is worth remembering this when you're rethinking that (tax deductible) donation to the Japanese tsunami victims, or a family fallen on desperately hard times, or even our local non-profit radio station. If these people, places and things stand a chance it is going to come from our contributions. When the economy is in the dumps non profit fundraising takes a big hit with it. The reasons are many. It is increasingly difficult to look at the plight of those less fortunate when we ourselves are under economic duress. Charitable organizations struggle along with the rest of us in these inhospitable economic conditions. They do everything they can to expand their pool of donors from incorporating new methods of raising money like online fundraising and Facebook donations, but they continue to be in need. That need has very real results for everyone. People and organizations who rely on fundraising for nonprofit organizations have mostly already used up their options. It is a scary and ultimately very dangerous line they are now walking. And it hurts. It hurts to remember that just last year you were an integral part of a large group of non profit donations and now you and a lot of others have totally failed something you were passionate for. It's not your fault but that does not make the hurt go away.Online donations can keep you donating even in your lean times. Many different groups use software for non profit donations that can help stream line the process, guaranteeing that even if you are not donating huge money more of what is being sent is getting to those that need it. This software as well as things like Facebook donations are also great ways to donate what you can without feeling like your contribution is being negatively judged compared to your prior commitments to these groups. It is important to remember in hard times that we are still all in this together. Sharing the burdens of our society is what non profit fundraising is all about. Contributing is how we stay connected and how many others stay alive.
