Self Defense Sprays Are a very Effective Method of Defense

These chemicals produce mucus and cause severe tearing. Law Enforcement agencies have been using tear gas for crowd control for many years.

OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) is commonly known as pepper spray. This chemical is derived from a variety of hot peppers and hot cayenne. These chemicals produce severe tearing, temporary blindness, difficulty breathing, and pain and make your assailant disoriented. Self Defense Sprays are considered to be the top selling device in today's market.

Tear gas will not be very effective if used on individuals who may be drunk, using drugs or in a psychotic mode. Pepper Spray on the other hand is not dependent of pain responses and can also be used in controlling animals.

Pepper Spray has to be sprayed directly into the eyes to be effective and doesn't release fumes nor does it decline with aging. Tear gas will vaporize somewhat and will effect someone who may be sprayed with a less accurate aim, this is due to vapors as they will glide into the eyes and be inhaled.

The effects of tear gas take a little longer to be successful; timing is usually between five to thirty seconds, while pepper spray has an immediate effect. On the other hand tear gas provides a longer effect in that its effects are longer also leaving chemical residue for days after being sprayed.

Mace is a name brand of pepper spray. Formally known as, Mace Security International. It is also a term used to describe one type of tear gas. It's commonly used to best illustrate all types of self defense sprays.

Law Enforcement agencies across the USA use self defense sprays as these devices are a superior self defense tool. Pepper Spray is less-lethal and severely effective when directly sprayed to the face area hitting the eyes. Utilizing this device also allows for a safer distance between you and your potential attacker, which in turn gives you ample time to get out of there and seek help.

Pepper Spray will not cause any long-term or fatal harm so many feel more comfortable using this form of weaponry without uncertainty. Self defense sprays are very affordable, very compact, come in a variety of styles and can be purchased in the majority of states throughout the US.

There are some down sides you should know prior to making your decision to purchase pepper spray. You must be careful of wind conditions, as this can cause spray-back onto you. You also need to take precautions while spraying as your attacker may be able to disarm you and use it on you. I would also consider purchasing a stun device to go along with your self defense sprays. It's good to have more than one method of protection.

If you should be sprayed with pepper spray stay calm. Water, soap and time are all that is needed to decontaminate you. Keep your hands away from your face and try to get a lot of fresh air.

Remove all contaminated clothing. Flush the affected area with cool water. Warm water may intensify the burning and inflammation. Do not rub your face!

Don't apply oily lotions, they will trap the OC resin onto your skin. Wash the affected area with non-oil or cold cream based soap. You could also use Sudecon Wipes! These wipes strip the chemical agents from your face instantly. A smart purchase to have on hand just in case!

If you experience prolonged pain after you have done the listed above I would suggest you seek the help of your doctor.
