Marketing Osteopathy Using Facebook
Marketing Osteopathy Using Facebook

Facebook is a fantastic tool for marketing your osteopathy practice. However, as with all the social media, it is not a place to sell your services, but is rather a place where you can establish and build relationships with current and future patients.

All social media sites, such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and YouTube, provide good opportunities for the savvy osteopath wanting to build his or her practice. Of all these sites, Facebook is the one that is most worth focusing upon. At present it is in the top 5 most visited websites throughout the world and is likely to rise even higher.

Many of your patients will already have a "profile" (their own page where they can list details about themselves and share information about what they are doing/ thinking). I would suggest that you do the same, but I would also suggest that the main profile should be kept separate for your own friends/ family, and that you set-up a "page" for your osteopathy practice.

This is now relatively easy to do. Once on your own profile page, choose "ads and pages" and then "create a page". It is fairly easy to create a functional page on your own, but someone with moderate web skills should be able to help you design an attractive page with logos etc.

From this point it is really about building relationships with people. First contact friends and family members and ask them to become "fans" of your new page. Next you need to start adding occasional posts about your clinic, perhaps an interesting online link to a story about osteopathy, or a comment about a particular sports stars injuries - anything that may be of interest to your audience. I also find that a Q and A section is a nice touch - just a place where your "fans" can ask questions that they hope you may be able to help them with.

Once you have started to post regularly (perhaps 3 - 5 times a week) you will start to develop more "fans". The wonderful thing about Facebook is its "viral" nature. Let me explain what I mean; if you post a comment on your page, that comment will show up in all your fans profiles. This in turn will probably be seen by others of your past patients, who may well become fans and then the cycle is repeated again and again.

Always remember this is about providing a place for people to engage with you. Do not bother to put blatant begging posts on your page - people will be put off and may well choose not to be a fan of your page any longer. However if you just carry on with providing informative and entertaining posts, you will undoubtedly attract patients from your Facebook fanpage - and none of it costs you a thing.
