Second is Namenda, it is prescribed often prescribed from moderate to severe stages of Alzheimer's. The drug is focused in helping a patient to continue tasks of daily living such as bathing and household chores. Third is the combination of Nameda and Aricept.

Studies show patients are responding better in communicating to others and slower decline of patient's cognition. In addition, the combined medication also helps the patient to function better in activities of daily living; the patient is not restless and less hostile, able to find things better, and more aware of the surroundings. This is a huge benefit not only for the patient but also for the relatives and caregivers.

Razadyne is another type of Alzheimer's medication. It is a cholinesterase inhibitor that also prevents the breakdown of the acetylcholine in the brain. In 1993 a new drug was added to the list of Alzheimer's medication, Cognex. However, it has side effects that can cause liver damage. Regular blood tests are needed to monitor the liver. In addition, nausea and vomiting are reported side effects of this drug. This is why it the last on the list of treatment for the disease.

It has been found that other medications can also help with Alzheimer's disease such as mood stabilizers, antidepressants, and anxiolitic drugs. However, before taking any Alzheimer's medication, it is still best to be examined and consulted by a licensed neurologist, referred to a family physician.
