Using a ferret to hunt is not a new or novel idea and has actually been around for hundreds of years. These wonderful creatures have been around humans for good deal of time. Lets take a quick look back in time and see how the phenomenon of ferret hunting came to be. As far back as the ancient Grecian times it has been recorded that the ferret was a useful and skillful hunter. These adventurous critters have served as guides to hunters from long ago. Their method is simple; they enter a burrow to chase the pest out the other side. In the late 14th century England a law was passed restricting ownership of ferrets to those whose annual income was around 40 shillings. This law was arrived at to prohibit farmers from poaching and hunting rabbits. Some believe that this law was the first actualization of the ferret being used in a hunting capacity and so ferret hunting was born. This non-traditional use of the ferret continues to this day as farmers will sometimes employ this method to rid their fields of harmful pests that can threaten their crop yields and bottom line. Ferrets are definitely not strangers to hunting rabbit as quite a few farmers will attest to. So here is how they are used. The ferret is led to the spot of the burrow entry where the pests are likely to be hiding. He is then let loose and his natural instincts take over as he darts through the burrow to flush the undesirable rabbit or rodent from the safety comfort of the hole in the ground. It doesnt matter what part of the world where this is used, it is an effective way to get rid of unwanted four-legged guests that prefer to live underground. Since ferrets have a natural innate curiosity, their talent in the hunting arena seems to be a perfect fit for them and they execute it perfectly. More and more people are resorting to the skills ferret hunting offers as a humane means of pest control. Instead of using poisonous baits and gasses to exterminate which inevitably causes a slow, torturing death, ferreting offers a quicker and cleaner answer to any pest problems. Does all of this surprise you a little? Well, Im sure youre not the only one. These wonderful, lovable pets possess many hidden talents.About the Author:
