Team building has taken the front seat in the corporate management principles in the recent years. The concept of team building was not there in olden days or no one felt the necessity of a defined team to undertake or execute a job. Technological innovations in the field of industrial and business arena led to a never thought of severe competition levels and managements had to sit back and look for alternatives to remain live in the field. Identifying customer needs and ensuring customer satisfaction with a quality end product was identified as the only solution for continued sustainability in the industry or business.Another important aspect came to the corporate mind at this stage was the principle of team building. A well defined and well designed quality procedure was to be framed keeping customer at the center point. Setting up or framing a quality procedure for an industrial set up or a business group was not at all a one mans job. Understanding all process parameters including material, machines human power and the financial implications or considerations was identified as a Herculean task which was impossible to be thought of implementing single-handedly. May be the necessity of thinking together as a team and formulating well thought of principles accepted by the team after taking all aspects of process routes, process management, quality requirements and customer satisfaction in to account showed the way to corporate managements of today to adopt and implement team building strategy as a path to growth and stability.The term team building itself is self explanatory of its meaning. Bringing a group of people under one umbrella to work together to achieve a defined target or an ultimate goal is team building. The goal can be any thing: setting up the quality standards of the organization, preparing the process route, designing the path for zero defects in the end product, customer satisfaction, marketing so on and so forth. Naturally there can be a number of teams working on various projects at a time. The top management has to accept team building and team work as a corporate culture.The success of team work basically depends upon the positive attitude and approach of the management itself. Certain principles have to be adhered to in team building as well as afterwards. While selecting a team, the main point to be kept in mind is to ensure that the team members are capable of contributing to the cause and are having an analytical approach towards their job. Secondly, the management should have defined targets for individual teams. The targets should be focusing on the pre defined projects, fixed time frame for completion of the projects and also the financial implications.There should be continuous follow ups with the teams to ensure that they are on the right track and with in the stipulated time frame. Constant monitoring of the project by the top management and their helping hand in case of any road blocks and imparting problem solving techniques to the team can multiply confidence levels in the team members and the team will accomplish the targets entrusted upon then with in the defined time frame.
