Work From Home Online, How To Set Up
Work From Home Online, How To Set Up

Online jobs and opportunities have grown 1000 fold in the last decade. You can earn a full-time or part-time income, and in some cases become wealthy too working from the comfort of your own home. There is a catch however, the pitfalls that online jobs could bring is that the promise of a large income or rewards may blind you to what the reality is; or worse miss the signs of a serious scam. However not all on-line incomes have to be earned working for someone else, there are some very lucrative business opportunities out there. Having a business that you can set up online instead of paying for premises is one area. Another is working for an established online business or using your current skills to enhance your income or start a whole new career online, the opportunities are endless.

There are both Pro's and Con's!

Firstly this does mean that you are responsible for your income, no work done = no pay. And as you are your own boss, timekeeper, delegator, etc. It's up to you to have the discipline to actually do the work required and not get caught up in household chores. Ultimately you are responsible to ensure you work. Being your own boss may mean that you answer to no one, it also means that you cannot blame anyone if you don't succeed. You are in charge of your income, be it small, large or indifferent.

Working at home with the internet as your medium allows you an instant and easy avenue to start a business venture you have set your mind to. No premises to find, you just need the discipline to keep your work and home area separate. All you need is a good Broadband connection, a good PC or Laptop and your ideas to start.

The fact that working from home can allow you to decide the hours and days you want to work means you are totally flexible. Just remember to have a home, work and life balance, after all that's usually the first thing people talk about is freedom of time to do things when they want; not when the boss allows.

The center of your business is your home; however, it's not all plain sailing. You need to allow yourself time to plan, strategize and be organised enough to actually get the job of work done. Too often people get tied up with day-to-day life and then realise that they have actually only physically worked on their business for 1 hour that day. Don't fall into this trap. Keep to the business hours that you choose and stick to them.

Will you sell goods, or perhaps offer a service?

The early stages of your business are critical so plan before you start and you can then decide what is the best way for you to go, so knowing what you want out of working from home and the reasons it's for you has to be foremost in your mind.

You may find that you actually need a website, do you make it yourself with all the self-help guides that are on the internet, or do you pay someone to do it for you? Do you already have a name for your business? This should be something that will last the test of time and not a fad fashion name that will only last one season. These are all personal decisions that have to be weighed up by the individual. As you can see there is more planning in what, how and when to start an online business that can at first meet the eye. Websites need a Domain name, this is the name that will get you found on the web, a bit like your personal address, so it has to be relevant to your business, e.g. if a florist was called 'stop and go', it's unlikely anyone would ever find them. A better name might be 'Flowers Direct' or something similar, but there are millions to choose from. Choose your Domain name very carefully, if possible it should be the same as your business name and relevant to what you're actually doing. Think of all the companies that on the run up to the new century called themselves something with Millennium in it, which is no longer in fashion 11 years later! There is a saying,' keep it simple stupid' (KISS), stick to that and you won't go far wrong. It does not take much to register a domain name, and it's yours for at least 1 year with you having the 1st option to continue with the domain name thereafter. Decide whether or not you only want it to be.com or if you need or want any other TLD (Top Level Domain) such as .co.uk for the United Kingdom, .de for Germany etc.

Getting your website hosted is not expensive at all; again there are many companies that offer this service. You need a host company; they list your website for you and get it seen on the World Wide Web. It's of no use to anyone making a website themselves, then only having it sitting on your home computer. The world has to see it so get a good hosting company. Everything you do should finish with your web address, from blog sites, to social marketing sites to emails, everything to get it known. As well as your domain name e.g. http://www.dressmydog.co.uk being relevant, as this site sells dog clothes, your web content and design should also be relevant to your products. Think again when you surf the net, what sites do you like the layout of and what really turns you off? It needs to be easy to navigate and pleasant to look at. You don't want to offend anyone looking at your site, you want them to stay there as long as possible and hopefully they will return. No visitors to your site is the first route to failure. If you enjoy your site, your products and continually keep yourself in check, working from home can be the answer to many people in this cyber day and age.

Most of all enjoy it, if it becomes a chore then go get a coffee.
