Building Windmill for Home Electricity
Building Windmill for Home Electricity

Wind powered wheels have been used since the first century, and the first prayer wheels date back to nearly the fifth century AD. The windmill that we are most familiar with is more closely related to those that were developed around the ninth century that were used to draw water and grind grain. In order to provide power to rural areas and in looking for cleaner methods for alternative energy, many developments have improved the windmill for home electricity. I also learned to build my own DIY electricity system cheaply using a guide that I will share more about with you.

Many small companies at the start of the nineteen eighties began wind farms in the California San Joaquin valley in order to produce commercial energy. A company by the name of Fayette Manufacturing Corporation was the first farm built in nineteen eighty-one. By the time the middle eighties had come around there were more than twenty-five farms in operation.

Wind turbines are used in large groups at farms so that large quantities of electric power can be generated. A wind turbine is the device used for the conversion of energy from wind or kinetic (motion) to that of mechanical. When using a mechanical device to create electricity, that device will normally be referred to as a wind charger or wind generator.

Spread out over hundreds of miles and made up of hundreds of wind turbines are some of the largest wind farms with all the land between being used for other purposes. Wind measurement requirements are very important and make it necessary to select sites in advance and research measurements known as the wind atlas. These measurements are recorded on a map that is extremely detailed and will take approximately a year to complete.

The wind blows faster in higher altitudes, so these areas tend to be the best place to construct farms. Areas that can maintain wind speeds of at least ten miles per hour or more of non-turbulent wind constantly are also best. It is necessary to connect to transformers to allow power to be used once it has been converted.

The largest onshore wind farms located in the world can be found in the United States, while Europe can claim fame for the offshore. There is some worry for birds and bats however, no more so than with pollutants that might currently be in the air. This form of alternative energy will use no fuel, or water, and will emit no pollution into the environment.

It has become much more acceptable in many neighborhoods for this type of installation to be used for residential power generation. Clean energy seems to be a priority with everyone and this type of alternative energy has no ill effects. In fact, the use of a windmill for home electricity may be the cleanest form of alternative energy there is. I have personally managed to build my own home DIY electricity system simply following a DIY guide online.
