Impacts of Monophobia on the Lives of Those that Suffer From It

Millions of people suffer every day with the fear of being alone. Panic attacks, depression, and the need to be near someone constantly can overwhelm a person's daily life and those people connected to them. Upon a visit to a mental health professional, these feelings and need to not be alone may be diagnosed as Monophobia. The impact of the lives of someone with Monophobia and their friends and loved ones can be severe and long lasting.

People who suffer from the fear of being alone are not the only ones that are affected by it. Members of the individual's family as well as their friends and co-workers can be touched by the symptoms of this condition. A spouse who is experiencing a panic attack due to their fear of being by themselves at home may call their spouse and request that they take off work early. This at first may be something that is understood; after this occurs numerous times it can start to put a strain on the marriage. The spouse may start feeling overwhelmed by the extreme dependence from their significant other.

Friends of people suffering from Monophobia can also become a crutch in the search to not be alone. Asking a friend over can be a desperate attempt to not be left alone with their fear of loneliness. Friendly visits may turn from that to more of a babysitter type of situation. Left undiagnosed and untreated, Monophobia can lead to the destruction of relationships and a life filled with uneasiness. If you or someone you know displays symptoms of Monophobia, seek out help from your mental health professional today.
