Success in any area of your life can only be achieved with the right mindset. The old saying, "your attitude determines your altitude" is so true. In unarmed combat, take the head in any direction and the body will surely follow, that makes sense doesn't it? It's exactly the same when we go after a goal or dream except we just don't realise the importance of our attitude. The head will dictate the direction we go in just as in unarmed combat, so it is vital that the head moves in the right direction so that we get to where we want to be. The difference between attitude and unarmed combat is, it's down to YOU to direct the head, not an outside force with a headlock on you. Make sense?
OK, that's all fine and dandy, but how do we get the right mindset and direction? Attitude!
OK, that's also great, but how do I get the right attitude?
It's all a self fulfilling prophecy in reality, a poor attitude over time will manifest itself into an even poorer attitude and the good news is that a terrific attitude just gets better and better. So, wherever you are starting from, let's make sure that everything that we do in thought or action is aligned with having, maintaining and growing a powerful positive attitude.
Look in the mirror; are you a winner or a whiner? Is the glass half empty or half full? Did 'they' conspire to mess you up or is it possible you screwed up all by yourself? The harsh reality about getting started to get better is that you have to take responsibility for where you are and how you feel about yourself, your situation and your life overall. Wow! That's a lot of responsibility, and you want me to carry it on MY shoulders? Yep, assuming that you want to improve your lot and live the life that you thought you were going to get instead of where you find yourself now. You see we all have dreams and aspirations, dreams to do with health, love, family, career, finance, relationships, achievements & greatness, but what happens when we find our reality doesn't match our dreams? The short answer is NOTHING! Why? Because they were nothing more than dreams, they were not goals. They were not goals backed by a superior attitude that says, "That fall hurt a bit, time to get up and have another go" or "right, that way didn't work out, how can I make it so it will work..."
Attitude has to be consciously nurtured until it becomes a subconscious state. What are you reading and what are you listening to? Are you watching daytime TV that displays the worst of our communities arguing and fighting each other and demanding DNA tests to prove parenthood in between injecting more drugs? What's that going to do to your subconscious attitude? What are you storing in your mind for the rest of the day, week, month and year? Are you reading crap about nothing, entertainment with no substance whatsoever? This celeb is back in rehab, or that celeb is on husband number 4 etc. Come on!
You can either watch someone else's life or get on and build yours. Read about successful people, it's certainly not boring or contrived. Get yourself to a physical state that you're proud of, 1 day at a time. Listen to people that impact the world positively, listen on the Internet or get audio books from the library. Mix with people that are vibrant and have a positive view of the world. Sure there are catastrophes and heartbreak in the world, help if you can, but if you can't you have a duty to yourself and your loved ones to be the best you can be. You know, if any of that sounds like too much effort then you are almost certainly in need of an attitude adjustment.
Arm yourself initially with words like discipline, optimism, resilience, persistence, honour, integrity & courage. There are more, but that's enough to start with.
Now, look at any part of your life and inject those words into it and start, 1 day, then the next, then another. Do it consciously at first and before you know it the subconscious will take over and will lead you just like I mentioned at the start. Repeat the process for every area of your life and let one good thought infect another until you become a powerhouse of positivity impacting on everyone you encounter. What greater gift can you give the ones you love?
