When it comes time to take the annual vacations many of us are creatures of habit and choose the same place every year without even thinking about other options.
If you take some time to consider other places you will see that both here in North America and in the rest of the world there is a long list of great places to explore and fall in love with.
Niagara Falls. You may have seen it a million times on the TV but until you are standing there hearing the water crashing down it is difficult to explain the charm and mystery of the place.
Grand Canyon. If you find the courage to step onto the glass Skywalk you will be treated to one of the most spectacular views on Earth. Around four and a half million tourists come here every year, and it is easy to see why.
Mexico. It might seem a bit unfair counting the whole country as one option, but this is because each person will have a different idea of what they want from their trip and where to get it. If you want a fantastic colonial city then Guadalajara is hard to beat. You could also check out local markets, see how tequila is made and explore the country's huge coastline.
Buenos Aires. This is truly one of the world's great cities, and anyone looking for culture, great food and warm hospitality will find it here. Many visitors are surprised by the quality and good value of the hotels and restaurants here and it is definitely somewhere to go if you want to make your money go as far as possible without suffering or going hungry.
London. For a city which has it all the UK capital is virtually unbeatable. The cross Atlantic flight and the living costs make it an expensive option but if you have the money then Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and 10 Downing Street are all waiting for you.
China. Just like with Mexico we have wrapped up the whole giant country in one heading due to the wealth of possibilities here. Do you want to see the thriving, growing cites, the Great Wall, Tibet or the Terracotta Army?
One last thing to bear in mind is whether you would like to plan your trip far enough ahead to allow you to learn some of the language of the country you are going to visit. For Chinese lessons Houston travelers have found that some time is needed to grasp the basics, while if you need English lessons Calgary is a great place to do it.
