Removing Wallpaper for Decorating

Decorating a room gives it a new lease of life and really freshens up somewhere you have possibly got bored of being. But if the room has wallpaper on the walls, it can be a bit of a night mare to remove it, although once removed it will give your room a new lease of life and transform a dull and dingy space. It's pretty easy to do if you have the right tools, and will leave a better surface for your new design.

It's a really messy job so make sure that you put sheets down to protect the floor below. Old sheets or polythene lining work just as well as each other; anything that will cover and protect the floor is a great idea. Score the old wallpaper with a knife, as the next stage is to add water, and this will really help it to soak in, meaning that you can take it off as easily as possible. Don't press too hard as you don't want to score the wall and damage the surface underneath for when you put the paint on.

Either use a steam paper stripper or hot soapy water, and leave to soak for a good quarter of an hour. Test an edge to see if the paper is ready to come off. The more you soak the paper, the easier your job will be when you come to pull it off the wall.

Remove the wallpaper with a stripping knife (which looks a bit like a fish slice). Don't dig it into the wall as you will gouge, simple run it flat to the wall. It's easier than it sounds!

If you have a large area then getting a steam stripper is advisable as it will take you a lot less time, and ensure that all the paper is removed quickly and easily. Don't faff around with water and a sponge if you have a large room!

Go online and Compare House Insurance to find yourself the cheapest deal. Policies are far less costly here and you will not only save yourself some money but a great deal of time too!
