subject: Are You Buying A New Ferret? [print this page]

If you are planning on getting a pet ferret, then I would advise you to take your time when selecting a potential pet. When you are on the lookout for a new ferret, be sure to check the animal over first.

The last thing that you want to do is to buy a pet that is suffering from any type of disease, or ailment. When checking over a ferret, make sure that his fur is shiny and soft when you touch it. There should be no bald patches, and he should be completely covered with fur.

Take a good look at the eyes, they should be clear and bright. Look out for any discharges from the eyes, nose, or the ears.

If he appears to be bloated, then he might be suffering from diarrhea. This could indicate either an illness, or he could be infected with parasites.

Ferrets are normally full of energy, and are into every thing. So if he seems to be relatively inn active, then this could indicate that he may have a problem.

Assuming that you have found a good healthy looking pet, you need to find out how old it is. A baby might not easily fit into your daily routine, so you will need an older one that requires less attention.

How many do you want? Just one is enough for most people, although some of us prefer to keep two or more. I suppose really it depends on how much time you are prepared to devote to them. If you do decide to get more than one, and if they are of different sexes, you will want to get them fixed.

With all of the proper health care and dietary considerations taken into account, your ferret should live a long and healthy life.

Above are just some of the things that should be considered in order to purchase a new ferret. For more information just click on the link.
