Camping is a fun activity that is done by thousands of people every year. Often this type of holiday is picked by families with young children, by couples looking to get away from it all, or by groups of friends attending music festivals. The thrill of sleeping outside, as well as the fresh air, is something many people enjoy but there are a few things that may put some people off that really don't have to.
The problem some people find is that they are unable to get comfortable when sleeping outdoors, with just the grass and earth for your mattress it can be the luck of the draw whether you end up sleeping on a nice smooth patch of ground or one with bumps and rocks digging into your back and sides all night. In order to make sure that the fun activity of camping doesn't leave you grumpy and sore in the morning there are a few things to remember when you are planning to go camping.
First of all you'll need a sleeping bag, invariably when sleeping in a tent you are more exposed to the elements, even on a summer's evening temperatures can drop drastically and be pretty chilly. Having a thick, insulating sleeping bag to crawl into means you'll be able to retain as much body warmth as possible and stay warm all night.
A sleeping bag will mean you get a little bit of cushioning underneath you but it isn't going to provide much solace if you are camping on hard ground, which is why many people will use something else to lie on, such as a yoga mat or a camping roll. This layer of foam provides a highly portable mattress that can be rolled up and stored in the car or even on top of a rucksack and can help make sleeping on the ground a bit more bearable for those with back trouble.
One step up from this is to go the full way and buy an airbed, much like a lilo you'll use in the pool when on holiday, an airbed could provide you with a very comfortable base to sleep on, almost like sleeping in your own bed at home. Airbeds will need inflating which means you may have a little extra work to put in before you can get your head down but many airbeds now come with a built in pump or come with one that plugs into the cigarette lighter of a car for quick inflation of your airbed.
There are plenty of camping accessories and pieces of sleeping equipment that you can buy now, which make sleeping under the stars more comfortable and allow you to enjoy your time in the country, woods or wherever you are camping.
