Tips on how to Decorate a Great DC New Years Eve Party

Last year I decided to throw a DC New Years Eve party at my apartment. Fortunately, the apartment is large enough to accommodate a lot of people, but the key to my party was having the best decorations to make it as fun an event as possible. My goal was to decorate using festive theme decorations so that we could all celebrate the past and usher in the future.

Fortunately, since a tight budget wasn't an issue I decided to go all out with the food, the music, the liquor, and plenty of champagne. But the decorations had to be top notch and set up in a way that would be classy, yet fun. I chose not to go for a bright color scheme. Bright colors are more for birthday parties and showers. So I decided to go for black tablecloths, silver, and gold balloons, napkins, plates and black plastic silver wear. I bought silver and gold streamers and hung them beautifully. My New Year Eve in Washington DC was going to look fabulous!

Next I had to find some fun party favors to throw out on the tables. Hats, noisemakers, bubbles, and small games are all great ideas. Nothing is more fun then watching someone not being able to solve some simple dime store puzzle when they're tipsy. Another thing to add to the DC New Years Eve party countdown are 2012 sparklers to give to all your guests to be lit during the countdown.

Another thing that was suggested to me was to hire a company to set up a midnight balloon drop. The sparklers might pop some of them, but I have high ceilings and thought it was a great suggestion and ran with it. I also have enough room for a small dance floor so I hired a DJ for a New Years Eve Dance. That was a huge success because drunk people love to dance.

Finally, I put a big glass jar on the hall table with a few sharpies and paper and asked each guest to write their name and one New Year's resolution and then I mailed it to them three months later to remind them of their promise to themselves. All in all my DC New Years Eve Party was a huge success. And the decorations were perfect!
