subject: Beginner College Underdog Football Betting Tips [print this page]

This year college football has given us plenty of big time upsets and great football action. It started early in week one of the college football season as Brigham Young University beat Oklahoma outright. IN week two Houston shocked the world and upset Oklahoma State. In week three of the Washington pulled off a miracle and upended University of Southern California. Week four may have provided the most upsets all year as Ole Miss went down to South Carolina, California was stomped by Oregon losing the sixth spot in the rankings and Penn St lost for the second year in a row to Iowa. Basically every week a big upset could happen, but is there a way to see them coming? I think there are some betting tips to pay attention to that could potentially lead to the big upset.

Here are a few of the things that a sports bettor should look for when trying to find an upset.

Home Sweet Home: Some of the upsets I mentioned above happened on the road but looking for a team at home that is not supposed to win and deemed an underdog will be something to look for. Not all home underdogs win outright but playing against a big named team inspires them to try their best to win and make a name for themselves. Georgia Tech upset ranked North Carolina at home and jumped into the top 25 in some polls.

Home against a conference foe: Playing at home is inspiring enough as is but when you're at home as an underdog and you're playing in conference the games becomes even more important. The win will help towards the title and the standings in conference. Oregon beat California at home and even though they are both 3-1 on the season the Ducks are much higher in the Pac Ten Standings than the Bears are.

Repeat performance: When a team has recently beaten a favorite already they are no longer intimidated by that team and can play with confidence when they face them even if it is on the road. Iowa was a perfect example of this as they beat Penn St last year and so when they went to Penn St this year to play them they were not intimidated and beat them again!

These are just a few things that a sports bettor can look at when trying to spot and upset in the making. These scenarios should be used in conjunction with normal sports handicapping and that could lead to an easy win with an underdog pick! Every week there will be upsets in college football and now you can spot them before they happen!
