Ferret Colors and the Choices You Can Make

Ferret colors are what make ferrets distinguishable. It is their distinct color that sets them apart from the rest of the animal kingdom. They have certain uniqueness to their color that makes them unique and distinct from each other. Unique ferret colors that have changed through the years both naturally and through cross breeding made by ferret lovers who breed them.

Nowadays, ferret lovers not only choose their pet ferret by popularity but by their own preference and character as well. Once they have decided on what kind of ferret they would want to have for a pet, they would go to their trusted ferret breeder and look for the one that would suit their personality best. However, it is not possible to determine the color of your ferret when it is newly born. That's when ferret breeders come into the picture. Breeders make ferrets undergo a mating process so they give birth to a kit of your desired ferret color.

It is the different patterns and characters to ferret color that enthusiasts love about these pets. This is why many ferret lovers resort to cross breeding different ferrets to come up with more unique colors. Aside from their colors, they have diverse patterns that were given names to best describe how they look. The hooded, blaze, mitt, badger, Siamese, roan, panda and Shetland are some of the popular ferret patterns. Other markings that ferrets may have are bibs, rings around the eyes called masks, white feet and white tail tips.

Other than ferrets' many color and pattern variety are their two types of fur or hair. First is the fur that surrounds most of the ferret's body called "guard hairs" (the outer coat layer). Second is the "undercoat" which is the fur that is underneath the "guard hairs". The distinction of tones between the guard hairs and undercoat are what makes up a ferret's color.

Additional things that make up a ferret's color are the different tones and patterns of their noses and eyes. The basic colors of a ferret's nose are usually black, brown or pink with patterns that are T-outlined or sometimes splotched.

The common combination of ferrets are Dark Sable, Chocolate Sable, Sable Silver, DEW, Hooded Sable, Silver Mitt and Sable Panda. But if you are still confused and not sure how to get the right color that you desire, it is best to see a trusted breeder. Ferrets sometimes change their color and might change into a color that you do not want. It is ideal to understand how color changes occur. Like the "Zach" for instance, which have a tendency to change from a sable panda to a very light silver tone. So if you have a particular ferret color in mind, better to be aware about these changes in your future pet ferret.

Ferret colors and patterns are the most wonderful traits ferrets have. If you are planning on getting one from a breeder, a good tip is to ask for a photo of what your future pet would look like. It may take you some time to choose the perfect ferret for you, but every ferret surely has its own unique trait that you would certainly love about them. Once you have all those concerns covered, you are more than ready to have the pet that you've always wanted. Next step is sharing your bonding time with your new pet which is not so very complicated at all. Remember, ferret colors are not only what's important about your pet. It is your love and theirs that you are able to share with each other.
