5 Ways To Use Gift Cards As Employee Incentives

In our office we try to foster a positive team environment. So, how is that goal accomplished? Isn't difficult when there tends to be so much competition, personality differences, perspectives and other factors to take into consideration?

At times, it can be challenging to contend with all of these variables. However, it is about finding the connection, or the point on which we can all relate. We all need and want to feel appreciated. If we feel valued it is more likely that our attitudes will reflect positively. If there is a camaraderie between employees, then the environment will foster team building.

So, how can we build morale? By making employees feel appreciated. And how do we make employees feel appreciated? In our office we get monthly gift cards. I realize that this is easier for smaller companies. However, larger companies can do it to, it just requires more creativity. For instance, maybe just getting smaller denominations on the gift cards. I know a lot of people who would be thrilled just to get a gift card that would pay for their morning caffeine fix a few times. If you aren't keen on smaller denominations to accommodate having a larger number of employees, then maybe rotate departments receiving a gift card. Or, giving a certain department a higher denomination for a certain accomplishment, and a lower denomination for the rest of the employees. Again, brain storm some other creative solutions. There are endless possibilities.

Here are 5 ways to use gift cards as employee incentives:

1. Give all employees a (determine denomination) gift card to (determine one type) each month.

2. Give gift cards to a certain department to highlight a project/accomplishment, or on a rotating basis just to show appreciation.

3. Give gift cards to a team that collaborated on a project.

4. Give gift cards for birthdays/anniversaries.

5. Give a gift cards to highlight a milestone.

Why gift cards? Most people will use a gift card. Especially if it is to a place that is well known. They can always be personalized with a personalized note, and they will never be the wrong size/color/scent etc.

Stumped on how to show employee appreciation and build the team? Try showing appreciation verbally as well as with a gift card. You'll like the results
