There are an approximated 270 million text messages that get sent every day in Thailand, with 10 million of them being spam. Now, most businesses hate spam as much as the next person, and really choose to stay as far away from it as possible.
What if there was a way to do it professionally? I mean, collect opt-in text messages, where the purchaser actually requests data, coupons and special deals by sending a text to your company? Also make it graceful for the client to opt-out, so they no longer receive facts from your business concern by sending a text message.
Today in Thailand, I receive more or less 5 - 10 undesirable text messages every week. Number one, this quite and quite counterproductive for the establishment that is basically sending out spam text messages. It causes me to be irritated by their brand, and they have spent money to make more of an archenemy out of me than a loyal consumer. There's no means for me to opt-out or unsubscribe either. It's tough to unsubscribe to something I never subscribed to in the first place.
What is the alternative? Use a professional SMS gateway. Let's say you have a pizza restaurant and desire to add text message marketing to your arsenal. You put up table tents that can say "Text Pizza to 12345 for a 10% discount at the register". The client sends a text, and receives immediate value in the form of a reply sms that will say something like "Please show this code 56789 when settling your bill for your 10% discount. We may contact you later and offer you other special marketing. Text the word STOP at any time to unsubscribe".
Over time the establishment owner can collect hundreds or even thousands of mobile phone numbers, all of which are stored in a database. The next time business concern is slow, he or she can send out a text offering a free desert, or a free drink or other incentive, and customers pouring in the door. If managed correctly, this can generate good will, customer loyalty, increased brand awareness, and above all, increased revenue for the resourceful mobile marketer.
