Making small changes to your kitchen can not only cut the cost of a complete overall but making small changes will add real design and make your kitchen look like new again. The backsplash area is one area that can really revamp a kitchen and there are plenty of different materials, colours and designs in which to choose from.

Ceramic Tiles are a firm favourite because they come in such varied designs and colours but also because they are easy to clean and maintain. Ceramic Tiles also come in varied sizes and you will need to decide what size you want before making a choice on the colour and design.

Glass Tiles are a firm favourite for any kitchen and work really well on backsplash areas. Glass tiles reflect the light and the colours and designs available will add real design to your kitchen. Glass tiles are very easy to clean and are a low maintenance tile which is important in this area.

A combination of Glass Tiles and ceramic can be used together to create a unique design and mixing tiles together can also work out cost effective. Mosaic's are also a really good tile to use and again Mosaics can be used together with Glass mosaics or ceramics.

Stainless steel is also an option that not many home owners consider but stainless steel is really effective in appearance and durability on the backsplash area. There are different finishes you can opt for with stainless steel and you need to consider this carefully as certain finishes can really show up splashes and marks easily but having said that stainless steel is easily cleaned and maintained.

Granite and other natural tiles are also popular but with any natural stone, they will almost certainly need sealing and treating to ensure that the tile does not spoil from over exposure to water and other liquids. Natural stone is attractive and has become more popular over the last couple of years and many home owners are choosing to use natural stone on floors and backsplash areas in the kitchen.

Another area to revamp is behind cookers and this is one area where you can use a real design statement. Having focal points in a kitchen will really help to highlight certain areas and softer tones can then be used on the walls. The whole kitchen does not always need to be redecorated but instead certain areas can be improved which will bring your kitchen to life once more.
