Tutu's are very popular among infants, young children and ballerinas. Many young girls choose to wear tutus in beauty pageants and they are a very common type of costume to find on infant girls in baby contests. They are also fun to wear when playing dress up or as a costume for Halloween. Making a tutu is fairly easy and the steps below will tell you how to make a tutu the no sew way. Step 1: Cut 50-60 strips of tulle fabric. Each strip should be about 15 inches long. You may cut the strips longer or shorter to make the length of tutu that you desire. A larger tutu will require more tulle strips. You can use one color of tulle or a variety of different colors. When choosing the colors for your tutu, keep in mind the top and other accessories you will be wearing with it. You want your entire costume to match. Step 2: Measure the waist of the child or adult you are making the tutu for. Cut a piece of elastic to fit the measurement. Step 3:Tie the ends of the elastic in a knot. You may cover the elastic band with a piece of fabric or tulle if you desire. This is optional as the tulle strips will cover and hide the elastic band. Step 4: Tie each strip of tulle to the elastic. Place the middle of the tulle strip on the elastic and tie a knot. Make sure each tulle strip is centered and that the ends of the strips are on the bottom. This will make the skirt of the tutu. Step 5: Keep adding tulle strips until the elastic band is completely covered. Step 6: Straighten each knot and tulle strip. Make sure every knot is tight and each tulle strip is facing the same direction. Step 7: Use a glue gun to add sequins, rhinestones, bead, bows or other embellishments to the tutu. You may wish to add a pair of shorts, tights or panties under the tutu. Step 8: Have the child or adult try on the costume. If it needs to be adjusted, untie the knot and tie it back tighter or looser. You can also add another piece of elastic to make it larger. Step 9: Make sure that the elastic is completely covered by the tulle even when it is stretched to fit around the waist of the child or adult wearing the costume.
