Compare Different Flat Sheets

There are now so many flat sheets available that being able to compare them will be necessary. Here are some pointers on how to compare flat sheets.

Thread Count

Thread count refers to the number of woven threads present per square inch of the sheets. The higher the number, the softer it will be. Softness doesn't equate with fragility. In fact the higher the thread counts, the stronger the material is going to be. The numbers will be indicated in the product description.

The low thread counts (80 to 120) are characterized by a somewhat rough feel. The soft ones start at 200. Among the most popular are those with 300 to 400 thread counts. Those with 500 and higher thread counts are even softer.

Fabrics

You can also compare flat sheets by the fabric used to make them. Those made from Egyptian cotton are the best. Egyptian cotton is the softest material you can buy right now. Silk and satin are also of the highest quality. For protection against cold, flannel is recommended.

The best types are cotton flannel. They combine the insulation properties of wool and the softness of cotton. Other fabrics used are polyester, satin and bamboo fiber. Rayon is also used in some flat sheets.

Size

Of course you also have to choose the appropriate size. Fortunately, many of the sheets available are sold in different sizes. The most common are the twin 66 x 96 inches (or 167 x 243 cm), the X-long twin 66 x 102 inches (or 167 x 259 cm) and the full at 81 x 96 inches (or 205 x 243 cm).

Other frequently used sizes are the queen at 90 x 102 inches (or 228 x 259 cm) and the king at 108 x 102 inches (or 274 x 259 cm). This size applies to king and California king.

Price

When you shop online the prices are stated. A quick look at the screen will let you compare the prices easily. The stiff competition however, is forcing the prices of these products to go down. Just make sure to check both retail and online shops so you can judge the prices. The best time to buy would be when the store offers discount sales.

When you compare flat sheets, make sure that you are looking at sheets with similar specs. This allows you to make an accurate judgment of the items' cost and which is worth the purchase.
