Aluminum Pie Plates Contribute To a Safer Environment

Now more than ever, people must learn how to be green. They are using up the earth's resources at an alarming rate and if they do not stop soon they will leave a mess that their descendants will never be able to repair. Food packaging is one area that should be easy to improve as many suppliers put so much unnecessary articles on the food that cutting back will not affect quality at all. Aluminum pie plates are a prime example of what can be done and what we all should be doing.

To make things easy it is obvious that some products will be used that are not going to be washed and put away for use on another day. Just because the pie plate is not going to be used again it does not mean it can just go into the bin. The main area in which energy is saved with this form of recycling is the way the old product is turned into a new one.

Much less, energy is needed to make an aluminium tray out of an old aluminum pie plates than from starting from scratch. If more people were aware of this fact they may be more prepared to reuse their old pie plates. This may not be music to the ears of the manufacturers, as they will realise that they are going to lose out on repeat sales, but the environmentalists will be pleased that the message is getting across.

There is obviously a much easier way to recycle it and that is to use it again yourself. By doing this you are not just doing your bit for the environment but saving yourself some money. For home use this is fine. If it gets damaged there is no great loss as there would be if you broke an expensive store bought dish. It does however have lots of other uses if it has lost its shape.

It can be used as a spatter cover if you are cooking bacon or other food items that are likely to splash hot fat out of the pan. Alternatively it can be a base for many other items. Put a paint pot in it to catch drips, a plant pot to catch spilled water, or even put your pet's food dish in an aluminium pie dish filled with water. This will stop bugs getting at the food.

If the water is changed on a regular enough basis and is always very cold, it may help keep the food fresh for a little longer. Once you have started to reuse your aluminum pie plates, you will wonder why it took you so long. As long as they are washed thoroughly between uses, there will be no trace of the previous meal that was in them. Regardless of whether you buy the dish new to bake a pie yourself, or buy it with a store made pie already inside, it should last for months on end and have many uses to come.
