Air and sea temperatures start to climb once more, but it's not only the flora that springs to life creating colourful carpets for visitors to enjoy. There's a whole range of fiestas and festivals taking place at this time of year. Not least the celebration of Semana Santa or Holy Week which is a major holiday in Spain.Lots of tourists like to visit the island at this time - booking holiday villas in Lanzarote specifically to enjoy the island at this time of the year with the bulk of them arriving from the UK and Germany, which is where the majority of the islands tourists originate from. And once on the island they can bask in the excellent weather or even enjoy a dip in the Atlantic as sea temperatures also start climb again from March onwards. Most of the best Lanzarote villas can be found in Puerto del Carmen which is located close to the airport at Arrecife on the south eastern coastline. Puerto del Carmen is located on Lanzarotes south eastern coast and this is very well protected from the Trade Winds making it an ideal spot for sun seekers and beach lovers enabling tourists to make the best of the beaches in Puerto del Carmen, such as Playa Grande and Playa Chica..There are also a number of smaller coves and bays to explore off the main Avenida de las Playas in the direction of the San Antonio Hotel as well as the large expanse of sand at nearby Matagorda and Los Pocillos. For those who want to stay somewhere different to Puerto del Carmen there are two other destinations to choose from in the form of Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise Playa Blanca is situated at the southern end of the island and is also home to some wonderful beaches, such as Playa Flamingo and Playa Dorada. Along with a number of very good quality four and five star hotels.Costa Teguise is at the opposite end of the island in the north. And is home to some high quality accommodation, such as the luxurious Gran Melia Salinas hotel. As well as its own superb stretches of sand such as Playa Bastian and Playa Cucharas.Wherever tourists choose to stay Lanzarote is just a four hour flight from the UK and rightly deserves the title of the Gem of the Canaries.
