Term Limits
Term Limits

Let's take a side street and explore term limits. Career politicians have been a sore thumb to

our political process for decades. Our president is limited to two full terms. Why shouldn't there be terms limits on all the rest.

Politicians without term limits become metamorphose.

They act like dictators.

They get to a point where it is all about power.

They do what's best for only their interests.

They become less likely to do what's best for our nation.

They are addicted to the money, power and benefits.

Term limits will not cure all the problems that prevail in our congress. It will help to get them interested in accomplishing what they were sent to accomplish. Senators should only serve, if elected, two terms or 12 years max. Representatives should only serve, if elected, six terms or 12 years max. That would not keep them from running for another office.

While we are on the subject, what is with a person running for office and not completing the term that they have been elected to serve? We should not allow anyone to run for another office without completing a full term unless they are ousted or in the case of death. Taking two years of a four year term to run for another term should not be allowed. Campaigning should be limited to twelve months and no longer. That would apply to current people in office and newcomers running for office. They should be putting their money and our time to better use.

We're making another turn here to talk about benefits. Neither Senators nor Representatives should qualify for retirement just because they were elected. A minimum of six years must be servedbefore retirement starts at whatever the retirement age for social security is at that particular time. The amount will be based on the number of years served from that point up to the max, never to exceed 70% of their salaries.

Healthcare benefits should not be any different for Senators and Representatives than for the rest of us. The same goes for all other benefits. That way when they change our benefits, theirs change. They would be more careful and timely in making laws that make a real difference. What's good for one is good for all.

What would happen if term limits applied to all people running for political office? Career politicians running for office for the money without being called to do so would be eliminated. Government expenses and debt would be reduced due to politicians getting so much power that they do whatever they want without full consideration of the consequences. Politicians would be more interested in creating jobs because they would be in the job market more than a lifelong career in politics. Their interests would become more applicable to the real world instead of the next election. We would get people running for office that have a real calling to serve rather than the call of the almighty buck. We all would be much better off!

That's my thoughts, what's yours?
